Child Vaccination In Japan (MR instead of MMR)

Since my family moved to Japan when my daughter Adlina was 9 months old, she will miss the mumps, measles and rubella (MMR) shot at 1 year old age in Malaysia. What I discovered was, there was no MMR shots in Japan, they just have MR shots dropping the Mumps shot away.

Getting here with absolutely poor command in Japanese (Nihongo) make it worst for us. Luckily there were a few Malaysian and Indonesian parents in Kyoto that we have met and shared many information regarding childcare. There were also plentiful of blogs that can be referred to written by other foreigners in Japan.

So yesterday, we took Adlina to Kodou Clinic in Uji to make an appointment for her MR vaccination shot. The doctor told us that our appointment is today (21st February 2012) at 2.00 p.m. and we need to get the handbook from City Hall Office. The doctor was very kind to make a call to the City Hall telling about us getting the handbook since many officers there can't speak English.

This are the disadvantages of cannot speaks and understands Japanese, I've went to the City Hall before several times for our Alien Registration Cards, National Health Insurance, Child Allowance and Medical Card for my daughter Adlina but yet did not get this handbook.

So today, at 2.00 p.m., we arrived at the clinic an got the MR shot for Adlina. We've been told by the doctor to come again in end March for pneumococcal vaccination and by end April for booster shot of DPT,   pneumococcal vaccination shot was not scheduled for free by Malaysian Health Ministry since it is not cheap, around RM 200 per shot. Living in Japan is great even we are foreigner.

After all, i better should mark somewhere about next shot.
